Climate conditions and crowd levels for each month of the year.
January in Regina is cold in the way that Canadian winters are, with highs of -6°C (21°F) and lows dropping to around -16°C (4°F). Those numbers do not account for wind chill, which can make it feel considerably more severe. The city functions normally through all of this. But visitors should expect that outdoor activities will be limited and that layers are non-negotiable.
February is, by the data, the coldest month of the year, with average highs of -7°C (20°F) and lows around -17°C (1°F). The days are noticeably longer than January, which provides some psychological relief, and the sunlight on snow can produce a certain bright clarity. You will appreciate that best from indoors.
March brings the first hint of thaw, with highs creeping to 1°C (34°F) and lows still sitting around -10°C (14°F). It is not warm, and it is often slushy and grey in the way that late-winter prairies can be. But the shift is psychologically meaningful. Snow cover begins to thin in the second half of the month.
April is a transitional month that can feel like it is making up its mind. Average highs reach 9°C (48°F) while lows sit around -3°C (26°F), meaning frost is still possible at night. You might get a late snowfall, or you might get a run of pleasant days. Pack accordingly and stay flexible.
May represents Regina warming up properly, with highs reaching 19°C (66°F) and lows around 6°C (42°F). This is the first month where you might feel comfortable without a heavy coat during the day. Light rainfall of around 3mm arrives as the season turns, the prairies green up quickly, and the city has an energetic quality as outdoor life resumes.
June is the beginning of genuine summer, with highs of 23°C (74°F) and lows of 11°C (53°F) making for long, pleasant days. The occasional thunderstorm rolls in from the west, brief and dramatic. But rarely ruins a full day. Wascana Park becomes the social heart of the city, and events start filling the calendar.
July is the warmest month, with highs averaging 26°C (78°F) and comfortable overnight lows of 14°C (58°F). The days are long and the prairie sun is strong, with UV levels that can be surprisingly high at this latitude. Light rainfall of 3mm keeps things from feeling overly parched. This is peak Regina, when the city is most alive and the weather most reliably cooperative.
August runs only a degree cooler than July, with highs of 25°C (77°F) and lows around 13°C (56°F). The summer quality holds, the events calendar remains full, and the evenings are warm enough to sit outside comfortably. Toward the end of the month you might notice the quality of light starting to shift, that first hint of autumn arriving earlier than you would expect.
September is, for many, the sweet spot: highs of 20°C (68°F) and lows of 9°C (48°F) make for ideal conditions, the summer crowds have thinned, and the prairie landscape takes on a golden tone that is worth seeing. Rainfall remains light at 3mm. It is the kind of month that makes you wish you had planned for more time in Regina.
October marks the transition to autumn in earnest, with highs of 10°C (50°F) and lows right at 1°C (33°F). Frost is likely by month's end, and the first snowfall of the season is entirely possible. The city's trees put on a brief but genuine autumn display before the leaves go, and the wide prairie skies take on a particular clarity at this time of year.
November arrives and Regina slips into full winter mode. Highs barely nudge 1°C (34°F) and the mercury plunges to -7°C (20°F) at night. Snow sticks for good this month. Short daylight hours quiet the city. Still, the season has its own charm. Bring serious layers before you land.
December closes the loop on winter. Daytime peaks sit near -5°C (22°F) and nights drop to -14°C (7°F). Holiday lights add warmth to the social calendar, not the thermometer. Regina throws itself into winter festivities. Cold-climate cities know how to party when escape is impossible.
